3. In the Server field, enter the hostname - 144.228.88.106
4. Enter the User Name in Username field 5. Enter the password 6. Enter the directory in the Path field. You do not need to enter the job number dirctory. 7. Click Connect. 8. Once properly connected to your ftp folder on the ProComm site, go to the BOOKMARKS menu and select SAVE AS BOOKMARK. Save the bookmark in a convenient place on your Mac HD. 9. To open the Bookmark later, you can simply double click the it where it was saved, or if you saved it in the default folder, you can go to the BOOKMARKS menu and select it there. II . Vicom FTP Client and firewall settings Depending on how your Mac or network connects to the Internet and which firewalls --- either software or hardware --- are used to protect that connection, an ftp connection might fail in Vicom FTP Client. In most cases, the default setup will work. If, however, you experience problems with Vicom FTP displaying an empty file list or if Vicom gets stuck "Getting File List" you might want to toggle the mode in which Vicom operates. Passive Mode is best, but if you're having problems: 1. Open Vicom FTP Client 2. From the Vicom FTP Client menu select PREFERENCES 3. Choose the FTP tab. ![]() 4. Toggle the "Use Passive FTP (PASV)" option from its current setting and click Save. III. Using Vicom FTP Client The Vicom FTP Client interface presents the user with a double pane window. The left window is a folder on your local computer. You specify this location in the New Connection setup on the Options tab. If nothing is specified, you start in the folder you specify in the Application preferences. The pane on the right is your folder on the ProComm ftp site. A few things to know: 1.) New files might not show up in either window on an ftp client like Vicom FTP Client unless you refresh the view. This is especially applicable in cases where you don't see files that ProComm has supposedly uploaded. Use the REFRESH button at the top to get an updated view of your ProComm ftp folder. 2.) If you are uploading a file to the ProComm server, don't use spaces or illegal characters like / \ * : ; . ? in the file names. 3.) Pertinent to the ProComm site, if you set up a ProComm session profile and connect only to see a massive count of numbered folders that ![]()
all report Error 11123: Access is denied when you attempt to open them, you probably entered the path incorrectly in the Connections tab of the New Connection setup. Close the connection, go to BOOKMARKS : EDIT BOOKMARKS, recheck the Path entry. If you notice an entry error, re-enter the directory from the link in your email and click SAVE.
4.) The buttons at the top of the Vicom FTP Client window are controls for which ever window you have currently selected. For example, when you click inside the right window, the DELETE button deletes files for that folder. If you click the DELETE button while you have a file on the ProComm site selected, you will delete that file. 6.) The files you copy to your computer are not moved to your computer. They will reside on the ProComm server after you download them.
To download files:
1.) Once you connect to your folder on the ProComm ftp site, you should see any number of job folders within. Your job number is actually the last phrase of numbers in the link we email you. (See the syntax link above.) But if you want to find the latest upload, just look for the highest numbered folder and open it by double clicking it. 2.) Highlight all the files you wish to download to your Mac by selecting them in the right window. If you want to select multiple files, click the first and last in the list while holding your SHIFT key. To select non-contiguous files, use the COMMAND key while you click the files to download.
![]() 3.) Once you've selected the files you want, press the Download button at the top of the window to copy the files you selected to your Mac. Alternately, you can simply drag the files to another folder or your ![]() desktop. This comes in handy if you'd like to put the files in an area other than the folder in the left pane. 4.) When you start a download process, Vicom FTP Client will indicate the download with a progress bar at the bottom of the right pane. Once the files are completely downloaded to your computer, quit Vicom FTP Client and open the files in whatever manner you wish to use them. |
