Follow these steps to make RealOnePlayer the default media player for audio streams like ProStream and ProComm Radio.

1. Ascertain that RealOne Player has been installed on your computer. To do so, go to START BUTTON: SETTINGS: CONTROL PANEL. When the Control Panel opens, look for the Add/Remove Programs icon.

2. Start the Add/Remove programs control panel and scroll down the list of programs. If you see RealOne Player in the list, Real Player is installed on your PC. Click CANCEL to close the control panel. If you don't see RealOne Player in the list, download the latest version and run the installer.

Note: It is recommended that you select the CUSTOM installation when running the RealOne Player installation and be careful of your choices. The Easy RealOne Player installation is set to opt you into mailing lists. It is also set to commandeer authority to handle many file types on your PC. For example, Easy installation will change your default CD player to RealOne Player. Make sure you choose only the files you wish RealOnePlayer to handle by clicking on the CUSTOMIZE button when the Install Wizard's Default Media Player window appears.

3. Once you know RealOnePlayer is installed on your PC, start the program and go to TOOLS:PREFERENCES.

4. Select MEDIA TYPES in the left pane of the Preferences Window and make sure a check mark is beside RealMedia. Click OK.

There are no other media players that can decode .rm files so you probably won't have a problem with them being commandeered by other players. Still, there is the possibility that the Windows preference was otherwise changed or deleted. If you feel comfortable editing Windows File Types, you can do so by either opening My Computer and going to View:Folder Options and then File Types in Windows98 or going to Start Menu:Settings:Control Panels:Folder Options in Windows XP. Find the setting for RealMedia files types (.rm) and make sure RealOnePlayer is set to open them

5. Finally, if you've follow the steps outlined above and still experience problems streaming RealMedia files, you might have no better choice than to download RealPlayer and reinstall the application. This usually resets preferences to default values.
